The Genie GSTB-BX Safe-T-Beam Kit is a replacement pair of wired, infrared photo-eye safety sensors for Genie residential garage door openers. Designed to stop and reverse the door when the invisible beam is interrupted, these sensors help maintain compliance with current garage door safety standards and restore proper safety operation on openers equipped with Genie’s Safe-T-Beam system. The kit supplies a matched sending unit and receiving unit with mounting hardware for track- or wall-mount installation near the bottom of the door opening. A steady indicator light on the receiver confirms proper alignment; when aligned and unobstructed, the opener can close normally, and when the beam is blocked, the door will not close.
The GSTB-BX sensors are low-voltage devices powered directly from the opener head; no external power supply or wireless pairing is required. They are commonly used as a replacement or upgrade on compatible Genie openers manufactured since the early 1990s that use the Safe-T-Beam style photo eyes. Installation typically involves removing the old sensors, mounting the new brackets at the same height, aligning the lenses until the alignment LED is solid, and connecting the sensor leads to the opener’s designated Safe-T-Beam terminals per the opener manual. For best results, mount both sensors at the same height close to the floor on each side of the door, keep lenses clean, and test obstruction reversal after installation. These sensors are intended for Genie systems and are not cross-compatible with other brands’ photo-eye technologies.
